The story of Surf Center is closely connected to the history of windsurfing in El Médano.

It began with Klaus Gahmig, who opened his first windsurfing school in Lübeck Bay in 1974. A few years later, Surf Center was established in El Médano – becoming the first windsurfing school and center in town.

What started in the early days of the sport grew into a family-run center that accompanied generations of windsurfers and became part of the watersports history of El Médano.

Over the last years, that story has continued from our new home at Wind Center Playa Surf, where the experience and roots of Surf Center have come together with a new generation, new disciplines and a new vision for the future.

Today, Klaus and Marion are enjoying their well-earned retirement, but what they built remains an important part of who we are. We want to preserve the same personal and familiar spirit that has always defined Surf Center, while continuing to evolve with the sport and the people who come to El Médano to enjoy the water.

In June 2024, we celebrated 50 years since Klaus opened his first windsurfing school – half a century of teaching, windsurfing, friendships and life around the ocean.

A lot has changed over those 50 years. The passion for watersports and the family spirit of Surf Center have remained. And the story continues.
